Actually Valentine’s Day celebrations become repetitive just like birthdays; the red roses and chocolate association is tired. Big Brother Mzansi fans disenchanted with the same old themes coming up year on year, below are some new great Valentine ideas to pick up this year.
1. Get cultured: Every culture celebrates the day of love differently. In Japan for instance, women buy ‘Hom-mei’, a chocolate strictly for boyfriends and husbands. Women have to wait the whole month to receive their gift, which is usually white chocolate. Do some research and mix your Valentine’s Day up with traditions borrowed from different cultures.
2. Be a tourist in your city: Since plenty of people dismiss Valentine’s Day as a commercial gimmick, throw Valentine’s Day on its head and plan a few touristy activities with your other half in your city. South Africa has an abundance of attractions to visit in every city, town and village. Explore!
3. Have a group date at someone’s house. Gather a bunch of people for a stay-at-home group date. Keep in mind that if your party consists of both singles and couples, there should be an even number of single men and women so that no one ends up feeling like a third wheel (just a heads up)!
